Research Interests

The influence of surface chemistry on the properties of particle dispersions forms the basis of my research interests. In particular, we are interested in how rheology and stability of dispersions can be controlled through the use of ionic and polymer dispersants. The research program involves a number of inter-related investigations:

  1. Fundamental investigation of adsorption; kinetics, adsorbed layer structures, 3-dimensional characterisation of the adsorbed layer conformations.
  2. Particle dispersion rheology.
  3. Measurements of compressive and shear yield stresses as a function of surface adsorbates and solution properties (pH, electrolyte).

The eventual aim is to develop control of dispersion properties through manipulation of surface chemistry and/or dispersion additives.
